A lie lead comes in from David C:
Would the tax breaks go to those making under $150k? What about those making between 150 and 200 (or 250k)?
Is there a lie in here somewhere?
We need your help! There are a never-ending series of claims each campaign makes daily, and only so much time for our team to track lie leads. But we take this task seriously, so we need your help. There are specific comments members of each campaign make, from time to time, that appear to be lies. But we can't always find the proof right away, so we're going to list them here in question form. You can use tools like the Library of Congress' legislative tool search, Thomas, Google news search, or any other primary news search tools.
If you find some facts, add them as a comment. If you help expose a lie, we'll adjust the post, give credit where it's due, and add it to the score. And of course if you discover it's true, well note that on the entry and retire the discussion. But this is neither a battle we can, or want to, fight alone. So join us to fight the lies, and expose the truth.

Today in Obama’s nationally televised 30 minute spot, he said tax cuts for all those making under $200,000. But he has consistantly said in stump speeches and debates those making $250,000.
Has he changed is tune? Is there a lie in here?
In the third presidential debate, McCain said:
Right now, because of previous agreements, some made by President Clinton, the goods and products that we send to Colombia, which is our largest agricultural importer of our products, is — there’s a billion dollars that we — our businesses have paid so far in order to get our goods in there.
By any meausre, Colombia is not our largest agricultural importer. Canada is, with over $13b per year, per the Department of Agriculture. Canada and Mexico are also ahead in North America, in addition to japan, the EU, China and even indonesia and russia.
The only way this could be considered true is if he meant “in the region”. Colombia IS the largest importer in South America.
Would keeping out this crucial piece of information make this a lie?
The candidates just said she did.
McCain just said it was.
McCain said he did.
Thanks for the tips! We’ve marked this a lie and written it up properly!
McCain just said it was.
Obama just said McCain’s plan was.
Obama said they are.
McCain just said we did.
McCain just said he hadn’t.
Obama said we’re importing hundreds of thousands, and exporting only thousands. Truth or lie?
Obama said we do.
McCain just saw we were, but I recall many recent reports about the Kurds moving openly towards an independent state.
The two just accused each other of lying about it, so someone’s pants are on fire.
Obama just said that was his only involvement.
McCain just said he did.
McCain just said he did.
McCain just said he did.
On first blush, it looks like Bloomberg proposed a hiring freeze in the past, but never a spending freeze. We’ll keep checking.
Obama said they do.
McCain said we did.
Yes, but not in the context of taxes. Again, it’s in the video on the last lie lead. It’s in the context of an economy benefitting when everyone is prosperous.
Ok, McCain just restated that Obama was saying he’d take Joe’s money to give to someone else That’s more clearly untrue - we’ll get the transcript and write this up.
McCain just said he did. I watched the video 15 minutes ago and I don’t believe that was a part of the 8 minute exchange. A higher rate in his bracket, yes. But not a higher tax bracket. Watch the video for yourself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFC9jv9jfoA
McCain just said they did. McClatchy just wrote something that may refute that.
Biden says he did:
with regard to arms control and weapons, nuclear weapons require a nuclear arms control regime. John McCain voted against a Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty that every Republican has supported.
John McCain has opposed amending the Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty with an amendment to allow for inspections.
Ann Coulter Disputes it (we havent’ yet vetted):
The last nuclear test ban treaty the Senate voted on was the one Clinton signed in the ’90s. As The New York Times editorialized on the Senate vote a few years later: “Last week, Senate Republicans thundered ‘no’ to the nuclear test ban treaty, handing the White House its biggest defeat since health care in 1994.” Forty-nine Republicans voted against the treaty; only four liberal Republicans voted for it. That’s the treaty Biden says “every Republican has supported.”
Can anyone clear this up?
Biden said we did and Ann Coulter disputes it:
Biden said about Hezbollah: “When we kicked — along with France — we kicked Hezbollah out of Lebanon.” Hezbollah was never kicked out of Lebanon.
He continued: “I said and Barack said, ‘Move NATO forces in there. Fill the vacuum, because if you don’t, Hezbollah will control it.’” This is madness — Lebanon is not a NATO country, nor had any NATO country been attacked by Lebanon.
McCain said he will
Sen. Obama’s secret that you don’t know is that his tax increases will increase taxes on 50 percent of small business revenue.
McCain said:
Meanwhile, they were getting all kinds of money in campaign contributions. Sen. Obama was the second-highest recipient of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac money in history — in history
CNN has a fact-check on it. Does this prove anyone lied?
McCain said it was:
I don’t expect you to watch every vote. And you know what you’ll find? This is the most liberal big-spending record in the United States Senate.
