About

Everyone knows politicians lie. We don’t like that one bit.

They lie because it works. Americans eat it up often without any research. Who can blame them? We lead busy lives, and after all, we’re trusting on this person to lead the free world. Surely they would be honest, or if not, surely someone will hold them accountable…

Enter liecount.com

From the conventions up until the election, we will be keeping an eye on each of the candidates and their official campaigns, listening critically and as objectively as possible for stretched truths and outright lies. We’ll use sources from around the web for confirmation, and keep a running tally on the lies of each campaign.

Our goal is to hold candidates accountable for their words, and to motivate voters to be more critical in their listening.

Furthermore, which party lies more? Which candidate is more honest? Perhaps it will help you (even us) make our final decision come November 4th.

Who are these guys?

Nathan Clark and Peter Centofante are good friends and former business partners who are fed up with hearing candidates lie with a straight face and get away with it. We always thought there should be a zebra-striped refs at these events, blowing whistles and throwing flags. After all, we have regulations on our food and our medicine, but nothing stopping viable candidates for the most important job in the world from lying through their teeth. Why not do something about it?

Nathan and Peter also run Wondermade, an umbrella for wonder-filled, action-based ideas.

How do you tally lies?
A highly scientific method is employed – we decide if it’s a lie. Lie, of course, is a loaded word. We will be the judge on whether truth is stretched a little, a lot or if it’s simply an outright lie. Points will only be given to verifiable lies. Don’t agree with us? Please comment and make your case! Have questions about how we define a lie?

Do you do the research yourself?
Some of it. We will lean heavily on respected sources like factcheck.org for our data. Some info we will observe and research ourselves. We are not a research group, nor are we respected journalists. Our goal is not uncovering new facts, but pointing to existing facts in a way that clearly exposes the truth hiding behind lies. We’re more interested in leaning on existing sources to keep a running tally of generally agreed upon lies.
